Art was the first-born son to Anton & Emma (nee Sponner) Stelzl, in the village of Ketzelsdorf, Sudetenland, on February 6, 1935, soon to be followed by a brother, Horst, and sisters Inge & Dorle. Art immigrated to Hespeler, Ontario, Canada in 1954. It was here he met and married his “Schnookie”, Bertha (nee Lorfing) of Kitchener, Ontario, on May 12, 1956. Art established himself in Hespeler in the 1960s as how most people knew him, “Art the Barber”. He was an active member of the Hespeler Community through his association with IOOF, fundraising & supporting local charities and athletic teams. Art was a proud member of the Continental and Concordia German Clubs. He was an avid drummer, playing at many Club functions, weddings and Oktoberfest Celebrations. In his spare time, Art enjoyed golfing, curling, tennis, skiing, going to the Opera, soccer, horseback riding, fishing, traveling, playing cards and meeting with friends at the local Pubs for a pint. Many of Art’s fondest memories revolved around getting together with friends and extended family for BBQs, pig roasts and impromptu croquet games. Art is survived by his loving wife of almost 60-years, Bertha. Loving Father to Sandra, Ron and Father-in-Law to Meghan. Beloved Opa of Sean, Maria, Tianna, Hillary, Karrina, Natalie and Heidi. Also loved by his Great-Grandchildren Jedi & Franco. Art will be missed by his sisters Inge and Dorle, his Tante Mitzie, as well as his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
